MoU Signing between Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAS&T) and Bahria University for collaboration in Earth Sciences Studies.

Following the success of BS-Geophysics and launching of M.Sc Geophysics by Bahria University in Karachi, a Memorandum of Understanding with Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAS&T) for the collaboration in Earth Sciences Studies was signed today at National Centre for Maritime Policy Research, Bahria University, Karachi. The MoU was signed by Rector Bahria University Vice Admiral (Retd) Farooq Rashid HI(M), S.Bt and Vice Chancellor Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology Professor Dr. Mohammad Qaisar. The ceremony was attended by eminent scholars, practitioners of Earth Sciences Studies, and faculty members of both the universities.
Speaking on the occasion, Rector Bahria University termed this MoU as a significant opportunity for the students and researchers of Earth Sciences Studies. He regarded this joint collaboration as an important milestone in the overall educational and research efforts being conducted in Pakistan for issues and concerns related to Earth Sciences. He also reiterated Bahria University resolve to promote quality higher education in Pakistan as part of its mission of nation building.
Bahria University is the only university in Pakistan offering BS Geophysics program. The location of several important oil exploration companies and related industries in Sindh and Baluchistan makes it a very attractive choice for the students aspiring for a rewarding career. The efforts of Bahria University for promoting Geophysics education are already being widely acknowledged as vital for overcoming the current deficit of qualified manpower in this field.  

Stimson Research Centre (SRC)
Ms Jumaina Siddiqui, Research Associate from Washington based research centre, The Henry L. Stimson Research Centre, visited NCMPR on 24 July 2008.  She is currently working on a research project on the topic of maritime issues including security in the Indian Ocean.  Visit was intended to explore the possibility of joint research between NCMPR and Stimson Research Centre (SRC).  The visit of Ms Jumaina Siddiqui was facilitated by Sustainable Development Policy Institute Islamabad (SDPI).  

Signing of MoU with Centre for Foreign Policy Studies (CFPS) Dalhousie University Canada

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was singed between NCMPR, Bahria University and Centre for Foreign Policy Studies (CFPS) Dalhousie University, Canada during visit of the undersigned to Dalhousie University.  The MoU was proposed during the earlier visit and meeting of Honorable Rector with the Director CFPS Dalhousie University in Jun 2007.

Call for Papers has been uploaded on NCMPR website and efforts are underway to attract maximum possible speakers, delegates and participants.  Pakistan Navy and French Navy have already confirmed participation and have forwarded the names of speaker / panel.

ACADEMICS

Two BS (GeoPhysics) students alongwith faculty member Professor Shamim Siddiqui attended workshop at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology on 29 and 30 July 08 on topic of “Alternate Resources of Energy”.

Dr. Shamim Ahmed Siddiqui PhD in Geology has joined NCMPR as Faculty Member w.e.f 1 July 2008.

VISITS / MEETINGS

Two officers from NCMPR participated in Seminar on Development of Ports and Hinterland on 5 July 08 organised by PIMA.  CNS was the chief guest.
